Worship Devotion

Devotional: Pursuit of Holiness — Set Apart for the Holy One

“Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God.” – Leviticus 20:7 (KJV)

In a world clamoring for our attention, cluttered with distractions, temptations, and competing voices, there comes a sacred invitation—a call not just to believe in God, but to become like Him. Holiness is not about perfection or legalism. It is about pursuit. It’s about surrendering every part of ourselves to be consecrated for His purposes.

The song Pursuit of Holiness echoes this deep, Spirit-led cry from the soul: “Make me holy. Wash me clean, Lord. Make me whole.” These aren’t the words of the self-righteous—they are the plea of the broken, the hungry, and the humble. It is the heart cry of the one who knows that nothing apart from God can satisfy, and nothing unholy can remain in His presence.

Scripture repeatedly emphasizes this call: “Be ye holy; for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16). This holiness isn’t something we achieve—it’s something we receive through surrender. Yeshua, our High Priest and Redeemer, purifies us not just from sin’s penalty, but also from its grip. The lyrics, “The fire refines, the heart must change,” align beautifully with Colossians 3:5–10, which urges us to put to death the old nature and be renewed into Christ’s image.

Holiness begins with repentance. The second verse declares: “I’ve wandered far… but now I bow, my debts are paid.” Like the prodigal returning home, holiness is not a return to religious duty—it’s a return to relationship. It is choosing the fire of refinement over the comforts of complacency.

Titus 2:14 reminds us that Yeshua “gave himself… to purify unto himself a peculiar people.” We are that people. We are called to live differently—lives marked not by performance, but by presence. When the song prays, “Take my hands… take my heart… set me apart,” it mirrors the cry of Romans 12:1—to present our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God.

And how does this happen? Not by striving, but by the Spirit. The prayer, “Ruach HaKodesh, claim Your own,” acknowledges that only the Holy Spirit can truly sanctify. As Galatians 5:16 says, “Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” He is the fire that purifies, the guide who convicts, the comforter who seals, and the power who transforms.

Beloved, holiness is not optional for the believer—it is essential. Hebrews 12:14 is clear: “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” But this pursuit is not burdensome—it is beautiful. For in the fire of holiness, we find intimacy. In the setting apart, we find purpose. In surrender, we find wholeness.

Reflection & Application:

  • Where is the Spirit calling you to greater surrender?

  • Are there areas of pride, shame, or compromise that need to be laid down at His feet?

  • What would it look like for you to say, “Take my hands, take my heart, make me holy”?

Prayer:

Yeshua, Jehovah M’Kaddesh—You are the One who sanctifies. Today, I come not with strength, but with surrender. Wash me. Purify me. Refine me in the fire of Your love. I give You my heart, my hands, my life. Ruach HaKodesh, claim what is Yours. Set me apart for Your glory. Make me holy—not for the sake of appearance, but for the sake of Your presence. I choose the narrow path, the refining fire, and the joy of Your nearness. In Your name I pray, Amen.

You are called. You are chosen. You are being made holy. Let the fire fall. Let the pursuit begin.

Surmon Notes

Sermon Title: The Pursuit of Holiness — Set Apart for the King

Text: Colossians 3:1–10 (KJV)

“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above… put off the old man with his deeds; and… put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created him.”

Introduction

Beloved, we are living in a time where compromise is easy and holiness is rare. But the Spirit of God is raising up a remnant—a people who will not be satisfied with outer appearances, but who will long for purity of heart. The song Pursuit of Holiness from the album Supreme in Christ is not just a melody—it is a call. A call to sanctification. A call to deeper surrender. A call to be set apart.

Holiness is not about being perfect. It’s about being present—yielded fully to the Holy One who refines us, restores us, and dwells within us. Today, we’re going to walk through three truths that shape the life of a holy disciple. May the Ruach HaKodesh stir your heart as we go deeper into the pursuit of holiness.

1.

Holiness Begins with Surrender

“Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God.”Leviticus 20:7 (KJV)

Holiness always begins with a surrender of the will. It is the posture of a heart that says, “Take my hands, take my feet, take my heart—make me holy.” In Pursuit of Holiness, we hear this echoed in the lyrics: “Father, we lay it all down.” True sanctification isn’t about behavior modification; it’s about transformation through yieldedness.

Colossians 3:5 commands us to “mortify the members which are upon the earth”—in other words, to put to death the desires and patterns of our old nature. But how? Not through willpower alone. Holiness is a work of grace. Titus 2:11-12 tells us that the grace of God teaches us to say “no” to ungodliness and to live righteously.

Application: Ask yourself—what is the Holy Spirit asking you to surrender today? What pride, shame, or hidden sin must be laid on the altar?

2.

Holiness Is Fueled by Intimacy

“Be ye holy; for I am holy.”1 Peter 1:16 (KJV)

Holiness is not isolation from the world; it’s union with Christ. It is intimacy with the Holy One. The more we abide in Him, the more we reflect Him. This is why the song declares: “Yeshua, make my heart Your throne.” Holiness is not about striving—it’s about abiding.

The fire of God doesn’t just expose sin—it draws us nearer. The song cries out, “Let Your fire purify.” This is not a fire of destruction; it is a fire of love that refines us like gold. Hebrews 12:14 says, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” Holiness is not legalism—it is the path to seeing God more clearly.

Application: Make time for deep prayer and worship. Holiness grows in the soil of intimacy. You become like the One you behold.

3.

Holiness Requires the Spirit’s Empowering

“Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”Galatians 5:16 (KJV)

Holiness is impossible without the Holy Spirit. We cannot sanctify ourselves. Only Jehovah M’Kaddesh—the Lord who sanctifies—can do this work. That’s why the song cries out: “Ruach HaKodesh, claim Your own.” It’s an invitation for the Spirit to move in and take full ownership.

The Spirit doesn’t only convict; He empowers. Romans 8:13 tells us that by the Spirit we put to death the deeds of the flesh. Holiness is not a heavy burden—it is a Spirit-led dance of obedience. He strengthens our yes. He gives us new desires. He leads us into purity not by force, but by love.

Application: Daily ask the Holy Spirit to sanctify your mind, your words, your affections. You cannot walk this road without Him.

Conclusion

Church, the pursuit of holiness is not optional—it is essential. But it is not something to fear. It is the pathway to joy, to freedom, and to deeper encounter. Like the lyrics proclaim: “Set me apart, for You alone.” That’s the cry of a consecrated heart. That’s the sound of awakening.

You are not called to blend in—you are called to be set apart.

You are not called to performance—you are called to presence.

You are not called to religion—you are called to relationship.

Call to the Altar

Are there areas where the fire of God needs to purify?

Do you long for a deeper walk of holiness?

Come. Lay it all down. Let the Spirit mark you again.

Prayer

Yeshua, our Sanctifier, we surrender again today. Cleanse us. Refine us. Make us holy—not just in word, but in heart. Set us apart for Your glory. Holy Spirit, come and claim every part of us. We choose the fire. We choose the altar. We choose holiness. In Your name, Amen.

You are being made holy. You are being refined. You are being set apart. This is the pursuit. Walk in it.

Podcast Script

🎙️ Podcast Episode Script: “Pursuit of Holiness – The Fire That Sets Us Free”

Welcome, dear friends, to another episode of Awakened Worship, where we seek to encounter God through scripture, worship, and Spirit-led conversation. I’m so glad you’re here—whether you’re walking through your neighborhood, driving to work, or sitting quietly with your Bible and a cup of tea—know this: the presence of the Lord is with you.

Today, we’re diving into a sacred invitation. A holy whisper that echoes through every beat of the worship song Pursuit of Holiness from the album Supreme in Christ: A Journey Through Colossians. This song is not just about melodies and lyrics—it’s a heart cry. A response. A surrender.

Let’s talk about that word: holiness. In a world that often equates holiness with rules or perfection, the Spirit invites us into something much deeper—relationship. Presence. Intimacy. Holiness is not a box to tick; it’s a person to know. And that person is Yeshua.

Let’s Begin with a Question

Have you ever found yourself praying, “Lord, make me whole… make me holy”?

That’s the prayer behind this song. It’s not a cry of pride—it’s the surrender of the humble. The lyric, “The fire refines, the heart must change”, takes us to the very core of sanctification. We’re not talking about surface-level behavior change. We’re talking about the Spirit of God doing heart surgery—removing pride, shame, compromise, and distractions so we can see God clearly and love Him fully.

The Fire Is Love

Let’s be honest: fire can be terrifying. But when scripture speaks of God’s refining fire, it’s not about punishment—it’s about purification. Malachi 3:3 tells us He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver. The refiner doesn’t abandon the silver in the fire—he watches closely until he sees his reflection.

God is doing the same in us.

Colossians 3:5–10 challenges us to put off the old man and put on the new. It’s not a suggestion—it’s a call to transformation. And it only happens when we say, “Yeshua, make my heart Your throne.”

A Personal Moment

I remember a season when I was crying out for more of God, but I felt stuck. Worship felt dry. Prayer felt routine. One night, I heard a worship leader sing these words spontaneously: “Set me apart… for You alone.” Something broke inside of me. Tears flowed, and I whispered, “Lord, I’ve given You so much… but not everything. I give You the parts I’ve been holding back.”

Friend, maybe that’s where you are today. Maybe you’ve given God most of your life, but there’s still a room you’ve kept locked. Maybe it’s fear. Maybe it’s your future. Maybe it’s something no one else knows about.

The song says: “TTake my hands, make them holy. Take my heart, make it holy.” It’s time. Let Him in.

Sanctification is a Process, Not a Performance

One of the most powerful lines in the song is: “I’ve wandered far… but now I bow.” It reminds me of the prodigal son. Holiness isn’t about cleaning yourself up before coming home—it’s about coming home so the Father can cleanse you.

Titus 2:14 reminds us that Yeshua gave Himself… to purify unto Himself a peculiar people. That’s us. Not perfect people. Purified people. People set apart by grace, not effort.

Only the Spirit Can Make Us Holy

The final line of the chorus says, “Ruach HaKodesh, claim Your own.” Friends, we can’t walk this road in our own strength. Galatians 5:16 says, “Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” This is why holiness doesn’t start with striving—it starts with listening. It begins in stillness. It grows in worship. It’s sustained by intimacy.

Let’s Reflect Together

I want to ask you a few gentle questions. Let them settle in your spirit:

  • Where is the Holy Spirit calling you to deeper surrender?

  • Are there hidden areas in your life that need the fire of God’s love?

  • What would it look like to say today: “Take my hands, take my feet, take my heart… make me holy”?

A Prayer to Close

Let’s pray together.

Yeshua, Jehovah M’Kaddesh—You are the One who sanctifies.

We come, not with strength, but with surrender.

Wash us. Purify us. Refine us in the fire of Your love.

We lay down our pride, our fears, our distractions.

Ruach HaKodesh—claim what is Yours.

Make our hearts Your throne. Set us apart—not for appearance, but for presence.

Let holiness not be a burden, but a joy.

Let Your fire fall. Let the pursuit begin.

In Your holy, beautiful name, we pray—Amen.

Final Encouragement

Beloved, you are not forgotten. You are being refined. You are being set apart. And you are not alone on this journey. Every note of Pursuit of Holiness is a reminder that the fire is not to burn you—it’s to free you.

Until next time, keep walking in grace, pressing into truth, and worshiping in spirit and in truth. This is your pursuit. And He is worthy of it all.

Shalom and blessing to you.
