Transforming Thought Patterns

 “Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its Creator.” – Colossians 3:9-10

The battlefield of intercession is often the mind. Many believers pray for breakthrough in the world but struggle with strongholds in their own thinking. Paul tells us that our minds must be renewed in knowledge—this means that our thoughts must be realigned with Kingdom truth.

Breaking Mental Strongholds

Many intercessors carry spiritual burdens but also mental battles—discouragement, doubt, fear, and exhaustion. This is because the enemy attacks the mind first before attacking anything else (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

To be an effective intercessor, you must:

  1. Take Every Thought Captive – Evaluate every thought: does it align with God’s Word or with fear/deception?

The heart of an intercessor is not born from personal ambition but from divine burden. Intercessors are called to stand on the wall like the watchmen in ancient Israel—seeing beyond the present, discerning the spiritual atmosphere, and crying out for God’s will to be done (Isaiah 62:6-7).

Standing in the Gap

The role of an intercessor is to stand in the gap for others (Ezekiel 22:30). This is a priestly role, much like Moses, who interceded for Israel when God was ready to bring judgment (Exodus 32:11-14).

An intercessor must have:

  1. A Burden from the Spirit – True intercession does not come from human concern but from the Ruach HaKodesh placing a weight in our hearts.

  1. Ask for the Right Burdens – Not every burden is ours to carry. Ask the Ruach HaKodesh what He is calling you to intercede for (Romans 8:26-27).
  2. Pray for Open Doors – Like Paul, intercede for opportunities for the gospel to go forth in nations, cities, and lives (2 Thessalonians 3:1).

Interceding for the Unity of the Body

 “And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” – Colossians 3:14-15

The division we see in the world today is not just political or ideological—it is spiritual. The enemy’s strategy has always been to divide. If he can keep believers at odds with one another, he can hinder the work of the Kingdom.

As intercessors, our call is to pray for the unity of the Body of Christ. This unity is not based on compromise or human agreements; it is rooted in the love of Yeshua and the work of the Ruach HaKodesh. Without unity, the Church loses its power.

The Power of Oneness in Prayer 

 “Truly, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” – Matthew 18:19

One of the greatest weapons of intercession is agreement in the Spirit. When we pray together, in love and unity, our prayers carry greater weight. This is why the enemy works so hard to sow discord within the Church. 

Paul commands believers in Colossians 3:13 to bear with one another and forgive each other. Without forgiveness, there can be no spiritual authority. Before we can intercede effectively, we must remove bitterness from our hearts and pray for the healing of divisions.

Application for Intercessors

  1. Pray for the Church to Walk in Unity – Ask the Ruach HaKodesh to break down walls of division between denominations, leaders, and believers (John 17:20-23).
  2. Intercede for the Peace of Christ to Reign – Pray that the peace of Christ would rule in the hearts of believers and that offenses would be laid down (Ephesians 4:2-3).
  3. Stand in the Gap for Reconciliation – As an intercessor, you may be called to pray for unity between wounded believers or even act as a bridge for reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18-19).

In a world that seeks to exalt human power, knowledge, and ambition, Colossians reminds us of an unchanging truth: Yeshua is supreme.
