Scripture:
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” – Matthew 5:6
Reflection:
In a world rife with injustice and moral compromise, the hunger and thirst for righteousness are as essential as they are radical. This Beatitude speaks to a deep spiritual longing, not for fleeting pleasures or temporary solutions, but for the very righteousness of God. It’s about a yearning so profound that it’s compared to hunger and thirst — the most basic human needs. This hunger isn’t for self-righteousness but for the righteousness that comes from God and transforms the world.
Understanding Righteousness:
Righteousness is often misunderstood. It’s not about a list of do’s and don’ts or a state of moral perfection achieved by human effort. Biblical righteousness is about right relationship — with God and with others. It’s about justice, mercy, and walking humbly with God. To hunger and thirst for righteousness is to long for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. It’s a desire that shapes your entire being, guiding your actions, thoughts, and prayers.
The Promise of Satisfaction:
The world offers many things to quench our spiritual thirst and hunger, but they never truly satisfy. The promise of Jesus is profound: those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be satisfied. This satisfaction comes from God Himself, the source of all righteousness. It’s a fulfillment that doesn’t just quench our immediate thirst but transforms us, making us conduits of justice and righteousness in a parched world.
Application:
Reflect on what you hunger and thirst for in your life. Are there places where you’ve settled for lesser things than the righteousness of God? Consider how this hunger for righteousness might manifest in your daily life — in the way you pray, the choices you make, and the causes you support. Seek out ways to be an agent of God’s righteousness in your community and world.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, stir in me a deep hunger and thirst for Your righteousness. May it not just be a fleeting desire but a profound longing that shapes my entire life. Fill me with Your righteousness so that I might live justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with You. Use me to bring Your justice and peace to the places I influence. I trust in Your promise to satisfy, and I look forward to the day when Your righteousness will reign in every corner of the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Song Lyrics
Hunger for Righteousness – Fulfilled
Verse 1:
In the desert of my soul, where I seek to be made whole,
I hunger for the righteousness that’s Yours.
Like a land parched and dry, to Your springs of life,
I cry, Thirsting for the justice that endures.
Chorus:
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst,
For righteousness, they shall be immersed.
In the river of Your justice, in the rain of Your truth,
Their deepest longing met, in the dawn of Your proof.
Verse 2:
In a world where wrong seems right, in the shadows of the night,
I hunger for the light of Your pure way.
With every beat of my heart, let Your righteousness impart,
A thirst for holy living every day.
Chorus:
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst,
For righteousness, they shall be immersed.
In the river of Your justice, in the rain of Your truth,
Their deepest longing met, in the dawn of Your proof.
Bridge:
For every cry of the oppressed, every moment of distress,
May Your righteousness come down like a mighty stream.
Let justice roll, let mercy pour, till we hunger no more,
In the satisfaction of the righteous dream.
Verse 3:
So, I’ll seek first Your kingdom, where righteousness is freedom,
Trusting in Your promise to be filled.
For those who long to see, Your kingdom of purity,
In their hearts, Your righteousness instilled.
Chorus:
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst,
For righteousness, they shall be immersed.
In the river of Your justice, in the rain of Your truth,
Their deepest longing met, in the dawn of Your proof.
Outro:
In the hunger of my plea, in the thirst, You set me free,
Satisfied in righteousness, blessed to be Your guest.
Blessed, oh blessed, with a holy zest,
In Your righteousness, forever at rest.

Surmon Notes
🔥 SERMON TITLE: “The Fire That Fills”
Text: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” — Matthew 5:6
Theme: The righteous hunger is a supernatural craving that leads to the overflow of the Spirit and the fulfillment of divine purpose.
Tone: Prophetic. Anointed. Calling believers into deeper fire and deeper filling.
🕊️ INTRODUCTION: Hunger That Heaven Honors
We hunger for many things.
Success.
Safety.
Comfort.
Recognition.
Even spiritual gifts, sometimes.
But Yeshua doesn’t say “Blessed are those who hunger for influence” or “for comfort”…
He says:
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness…”
This hunger is different.
This hunger is holy.
It’s the cry of a generation that’s tired of shallow worship.
Tired of performative Christianity.
Tired of religious noise.
It’s the cry that says,
“God, I want what You want.”
“I want to be right with You, and right in the world You’ve placed me in.”
“I want to burn with what burns in Your heart.”
This is the hunger that heaven rushes to satisfy.
🔥 POINT 1: Righteousness Is Not a Concept — It’s a Person
Let’s be clear.
We’re not hungry for rules.
We’re not thirsty for legalism.
We’re not longing for just moral alignment.
We’re hungry for Yeshua Himself —
“He has become for us wisdom from God — our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.” — 1 Corinthians 1:30
Righteousness is not just right standing.
It’s right relationship.
It’s Spirit-empowered alignment with the heart of the Father.
When you hunger for righteousness, you are hungering for the full character and presence of God to be made manifest in your life.
You’re saying:
“I want the purity of heaven in me.”
“I want justice to flow from me.”
“I want to walk in holiness that’s Spirit-born, not self-made.”
🩸 POINT 2: The Hunger That Leads to Power
This is not just a quiet longing…
It’s a desperate thirst.
Like David said:
“My soul thirsts for You, my flesh longs for You in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” — Psalm 63:1
Holy hunger is not weak.
It’s violent in the Spirit.
It pulls heaven down.
It’s the kind of hunger that:
-
Pushes you to your knees in the early hours of the morning
-
Keeps you in the Word when no one’s watching
-
Moves you to weep over injustice
-
Refuses to settle for shallow praise
And that hunger opens the door for the fire of God.
Not just comfort.
Anointing.
Not just peace.
Power.
“For He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.” — Psalm 107:9
What are the “good things”?
Not stuff.
Not platforms.
Not applause.
It’s the Holy Spirit.
🔥 POINT 3: The Spirit Fills the Empty
Let me be bold:
God cannot fill the full.
He fills the hungry.
The empty.
The thirsty.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst… for they shall be filled.”
There is no ambiguity here.
There is a promise.
If you make space,
He will fill it.
Not might.
Not maybe.
He will.
And what does He fill it with?
-
Wisdom from above
-
The fruit of righteousness
-
Fire for prayer and intercession
-
Authority to confront injustice
-
Power to walk in purity and truth
-
Overflowing grace to carry others into the kingdom
This is not just personal.
It’s missional.
You’re not just being filled for your own joy.
You’re being filled to become a carrier of righteousness to a hungry world.
🌊 CLOSING CHARGE: Are You Hungry Enough?
So let me ask you:
Are you hungry?
Not just for a good life…
But for a holy one?
Not just for blessings…
But for righteousness?
Not just for experiences…
But for encounter?
Let the hunger rise.
Let the thirst deepen.
Let your cry become a river that invites the Spirit to flood your soul.
He’s not withholding Himself.
He’s waiting for a vessel.
An empty one.
Are you willing to be that vessel?
🙏 PRAYER OVER THE PEOPLE:
Ruach HaKodesh,
Come and fill every heart that is empty.
Stir up hunger for what is pure, what is holy, what is eternal.
Let the craving for righteousness burn in us like a holy fire.
Let the overflow of Your Spirit fill our mouths with truth, our hands with justice, our hearts with mercy.
Pour out the anointing—not just to feel, but to walk in power and holiness.
Satisfy the longing soul…
And make us carriers of righteousness to a thirsty generation.
In Yeshua’s name,
Amen.

Track 4 | Blessed Journey: Echoes of the Beatitudes
Length: 6–8 minutes (not including the song playback)
🎧 [Intro Music – soft ambient pad, 5–10 seconds]
Host (Darren):
Welcome to The Heart of Worship.
I’m Darren Winfield, and today I want to speak to those who are hungry…
Hungry for more of God.
Hungry for holiness.
Hungry for righteousness—not the religious kind, but the real kind.
The kind that comes from deep within—from walking in step with the Spirit.
In the Beatitudes, Yeshua said:
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” — Matthew 5:6
And that word “filled”… it’s not casual.
It’s overflowing.
It’s a promise.
If you’re feeling dry today…
If you’re spiritually starving…
If you’re aching for something deeper than surface-level faith…
This next song is for you.
It’s called “Hunger for Righteousness – Fulfilled”, and it’s a cry from the altar.
A longing for God’s justice, His truth, His purity, and His presence.
Not just to visit us—but to fill us.
Let it wash over you.

Host:
Maybe you felt it as the song played…
That ache deep inside.
That ache is not a problem.
It’s a gift.
That longing is the invitation.
Because the ones who hunger—they’re the ones God fills.
He’s not looking for perfection.
He’s looking for hunger.
He’s looking for vessels willing to be emptied of self…
so they can be filled with righteousness.
Not just right standing—
But right living.
Right loving.
Right alignment with heaven.
Let me speak this over you today:
If you’re dry, He will rain.
If you’re empty, He will fill.
If you’re hungry for righteousness… you’re already walking in blessing.
Host (Final Charge):
So keep pressing in.
Stay hungry.
Let that desire for holiness consume the things that no longer satisfy.
Open the Word.
Linger in worship.
Pursue justice.
Walk in mercy.
And as you do… the promise of Yeshua is true:
You. Will. Be. Filled.
Thank you for joining me today on The Heart of Worship.
I’m Darren Winfield.
And I bless you with a holy fire that never fades…
And a filling of the Spirit that never runs dry.
Until next time—stay rooted, stay humble, and keep burning.
